What is an Interior Footer Drain

An interior footer drain is a perforated pipe system installed along the inside edge of your basement floor, right beside the foundation footer. It collects groundwater that seeps through walls or under the slab and channels it to a sump pump, keeping the basement dry year-round.

I’ve been showing homes in Dayton, Beavercreek, Kettering and the surrounding areas for over 30 years.  I know from experience that when a buyer views a home with a wet basement it is an instant and total turnoff.  That home is going to linger on the market and sell for a substantial discount if the problem is not solved.

Steps to Install an Interior Footer Drain

  1. Mark and cut a narrow strip of concrete around the basement perimeter.

  2. Excavate down to the footer and clear debris.

  3. Lay perforated pipe wrapped in a filter fabric to prevent clogging.

  4. Backfill with gravel to promote drainage and stability.

  5. Connect the system to your sump pit or pump discharge line.

  6. Re-pour the concrete floor for a clean, finished appearance.

Why It Matters for Homeowners and Sellers

-Prevents mold, mildew, and structural damage
-Improves home air quality
-Protects finished basements and storage areas
-Adds market appeal for Dayton and Beavercreek buyers
-Eliminates the wet basement issue before it can arise

I’ve created a video showing the process of an interior footer drain going in to help illustrate how it works and how it can be a permanent solution to an otherwise wet basement.
